It's not uncommon for Duke's prolific basketball program to be involved in the recruitment of top young hoops recruits.

But top young football recruits?

With 12 verbal commitments in place for the class of 2013, it appears that head coach David Cutliffe and staff are already looking to the future.

Kameron Martin, an incoming freshman at Port Arthur Memorial (Port Arthur, Texas), told MaxPreps over the weekend that one of the schools he's hearing from is Duke.

Martin, who is a bit of a youth football legend in Port Arthur, is projected to start at running back for the successful Class 5A program.

"Look at him run," Port Arthur Memorial head coach Kenny Harrison told the Beaumont Enterprise. "I'd have been in the pros if I could run like that."

Martin has also attended a number of camps and combines, and has even taken a visit to LSU.

He told MaxPreps that Duke is hoping to get him to make a trip to its campus in Durham.

The Blue Devils will likely have stiff competition, however, as Martin may have a local childhood favorite.

"Well, [former Port Arthur high school and University of Texas running back] Jamaal Charles is my favorite player," he said. "He's like a cousin to me."
