Elliot Lovi already is the winningest boys tennis coach all-time nationally, but the Livingston (N.J.) mentor is on the verge of a new plateau.

As reported by The Star-Ledger, the 65-year-old Lovi could become the first coach nationally with 1,000 victories in boys tennis. According to the record book of the National Federation of State High School Associations, no girls tennis coach has reached that mark, either.

The milestone victory could come Saturday as the Lancers compete in the Essex County Tournament. The longtime coach, who is in his 39th season at Livingston, took the upcoming accomplishment in stride.

"I like to keep the kids relaxed, no pressure, clown around," Lovi told the newspaper. "Tennis is just what you do between Knicks games anyways."
