Following the murder of 15-year-old Jarmaine Walton
a little over a week ago in Birmingham, several members of Alabama's Class 5A basketball state championship team at Wenonah
are speaking out.
All-staters Justin Coleman
, Isaiah Maston
and De'Runya Wilson
are among the players that addressed the violence plaguing their city in an impassioned two-minute video posted on YouTube.
The city has been rocked by violent incidents in the last week. According to the Examiner
, there have been 13 violent deaths in Birmingham since March 15, including the shooting of Walton in a park popular with walkers and families.
Wenonah won its third state title in a row earlier this month, finishing the season 34-2 and ranked nationally by MaxPreps.
