Rouse is being remembered on social media.

Tragedy struck Hartsville (S.C.) on Friday night when varsity football player Ronald Rouse passed away, according to WLTX-News19.

According to, the 6-foot-3, 320-pound Rouse stayed down after making a tackle against Crestwood. After being helped to the sidelines, he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital where Rouse was later pronounced dead.

Rouse was 17.

The cause of his death remains uncertain, though The Morning News tweeted that Rouse suffered cardiac arrest.

Hartsville led 27-7 at halftime. The game did not resume.

As news of Rouse's death spread, many friends and teammates honored Rouse on social media.

A Facebook fan page was set up in remembrance of Rouse; it had roughly 3,000 fans in a matter of hours, while hundreds of others tweeted about Rouse.
