Ridge Shipley scored 26 points Tuesday night to help No. 24 Hebron knock off No. 6 DeSoto in an early-round showdown in the Texas Class 5A state tournament.

A pair of Xcellent 25 Top 10-ranked teams went down in postseason action Tuesday night.

One will see its season continue, the other will not.

In Texas, No. 6 DeSoto (33-3) saw its Class 5A state title hopes and season end with a 62-55 loss to Hebron (Carrollton), who won its 33rd game in a row and improved to 35-2.

Cal Poly signee Ridge Shipley led Hebron with 26 points. Jeff Hicks added 13 for the Hawks, who outscored DeSoto 14-5 in the final quarter.

Hebron – which was pounded 82-59 by DeSoto during a meeting between the teams in November – advances to face North Crowley (Fort Worth) in the regional semifinals.

In California it was No. 8 Long Beach Poly falling to Etiwanda 59-55 in the semifinals of the Southern Section Division 1AA tournament.

Poly star Roschon Prince hit a big 3-pointer to send the game into overtime but the Eagles prevailed to set up a meeting with No. 4 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) in the section final.

Star junior guard Jordan McLaughlin led Etiwanda (26-2) with 20 points.

Poly (27-3) will have the opportunity to finish its season on a positive note in the state playoffs.
