Whitney Young will be without Tyrone<br> Slaughter for 10 days.

Despite a roster that features at least seven future Division I players including Ohio State signee Samuel Thompson, Chicago power Whitney Young has taken its lumps on the court this season.

Now the Dolphins are taking hits on the sideline, too.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that head coach Tyrone Slaughter has been suspended 10 days for an unauthorized November practice that took place in front of a group of invited middle school basketball players.

According to the Tribune, it is Slaughter's second suspension since 2008.

Whitney Young is 11-9 this season and coming off a 21-point thrashing at the hands of rival Simeon (Chicago). The Dolphins were also defeated by Simeon is last year's Class 4A state championship game.

Expectations were high this season with Thompson leading a talented cast that includes 6-foot-9 twin towers Thomas Hamilton, a sophomore, and freshman Jahlil Okafor. The latter is not longer listed on the Whitney Young varsity roster.

Recent history shows that WY shouldn't be counted out in the postseason, however. A nine-loss Dolphin team beat Jereme Richmond and Waukegan for a state title two years ago and lost seven games during their runner-up campaign a year ago.

Under Slaughter, Whitney Young has scheduled ambitiously. The program has faced teams from Alabama, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee and Virginia this winter.

- Staying in the Midwest, one of the big games Saturday night will take place in Northwest Indiana where Merrillville (14-0) faces Munster (14-0) in a rare meeting of unbeaten teams this late in the season.

Merrillville was ranked No. 1 and Munster No. 2 statewide in the most recent Indiana Basketball Coaches Association poll.

Adding to the intrigue is the legacy of Merrillville head coach Jim East, who announced this would be the final year for him at the school after 43 years and nearly 650 wins.

The Pirates will have to get by 13-2 Crown Point on Friday night for the battle of unbeatens to materialize.
