It was a milestone Henry Thomas didn't seem to care much about and one it was assumed he would never achieve.
When Thomas hung up his whistle after last season at Lewisville (Texas), he did so only 14 wins shy of career victory No. 500. Thomas said he was ready to retire and move on to other things after manning the bench for 29 years.
Make that 30 years now, as Thomas returned to duty on an interim basis at
Flower Mound (Texas) and now has his 500th win in the books after the Jaguars beat Plano West in boys basketball last Friday.
Thomas took over Flower Mound shortly before the season started after his friend and colleague Charles Freet was reassigned, according to the
Dallas Morning News. After discussing it with Freet, Thomas accepted the interim position and told the newspaper he now might return to coaching again.
"It's been really great," Thomas told the newspaper.
