Barbe pulled off perhaps the greatest comeback in state history.

A furious rally allowed Barbe (Lake Charles, La.) to shock West Monroe (West Monroe, La.) 49-48 in the semifinals of the Louisiana Class 5A playoff bracket.

Barbe trailed 48-21 with 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter after Michael Mims rushed for a 15-yard touchdown for West Monroe. However, the Rebels missed the PAT, a mistake that would prove costly.

From that point on, it was all Barbe, as quarterback Kennon Fontenot struck through the air almost immediately to narrow the gap to 48-28. About four minutes later, Barbe struck again to make it 48-35 with seven minutes to play.

With just two minutes remaining, DeSean Smith, a standout committed to LSU, hauled in another Barbe touchdown to make it 48-41.

Then with 13 seconds left, Trey Quinn hauled in a touchdown that knotted the score at 48-48. A successful PAT gave Barbe a 49-48 victory.

Quinn finished with 219 yards and two touchdowns.

Almost immediately after it concluded, the game was being billed on Twitter by fans as the greatest comeback and perhaps the greatest game in state history.

Barbe will now face Archbishop Rummel in the Class 5A finals next week.
