2:56 p.m.
That'll do it in San Antonio. The East hangs on, closes out a 13-10 victory over the West. While Florida dominated last year in terms of landing commitments, this year's game was much more spread out, although Auburn certainly did well.
2:48 p.m.
The 2012 game has a nice projected crop of kids. Back on the ranch, I think Lateek Townsend is finished making his decision. Clemson it is.
2:43 p.m.
And Dee Hart commits to Alabama. Teammate Ha'sean Clinton-Dix was standing by his side. Placed the hat on Clinton-Dix's head. Creativity points?
2:41 p.m.
The East now has 10 sacks. Is that a record?
2:38 p.m.
The East defensive line, led by Ray Drew, continues to dominate. At this point, it seems like they're just out-muscling the West offensive line.
2:34 p.m.
Calloway confirms the speculation. He'll go to Auburn. Vei Moala picks Cal, wants to stay home for his mom's home cooking. Has two little brothers at home. Biggest winner? Grant coach Mike Alberghini, who apparently has two more Moalas coming down the pipeline.
2:30 p.m.
Wilder plunges in for a 3-yard touchdown. Didn't want to return the ball to the official. Who says high school football All-American games don't have elements of humor?
East leads 13-10 with 4:14 remaining.
2:27 p.m.
Behind James Wilder, the East is putting together a solid drive after stumbling on offense most of the day. The West defense seems lackadaisical right now.
2:25 p.m.
Charone Peake with a catch. There's alot to like about him at receiver. He'll be a great weapon opposite Sammy Watkins at Clemson next year.
2:19 p.m.
Kessler overthrows Blackwell as the East will get the ball back, trailing by four with 7:52 remaining.
2:14 p.m.
Kris Frost picks Auburn. Gotta believe that the coaching change at Michigan was a final contributing factor.
2:10 p.m.
Miles Shuler catches a long TD pass from Teddy Bridgewater, who had plenty of separation on the West secondary. Tom Lemming says the Atkinson brothers are 10.6 100-meter runners, while Shuler runs a 10.7. Shuler actually ran a 10.39 to capture the state title last spring, beating South Carolina commit Damiere Byrd. PAT no good, 10-6 West, fourth quarter.
2:08 p.m.
Want a sneak peak at some players who will be in next year's game? Willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that most of our first team
Junior All-Americans are targeted.
2:07 p.m.
Odell Beckham commits to LSU and declares that he wants to play wide receiver. Les Miles has locked down most of the 2011 in-state stars.
2:03 p.m.
No surprise to see Sammy Watkins slip behind the West secondary, even De'Anthony Thomas. He's extremely difficult to defend and has been one of the country's best receivers for the last two years.
2:02 p.m.
Report comes in: broken left arm for Michael Bennett. Gotta imagine he'll bounce back and not face any long-term problems from it.
1:59 p.m.
Granted, it was sort of a broken play, but Aaron Lynch zipped right by Greg Robinson. He continues to impress, much like Anthony Chickillo did on Wednesday night.
1:58 p.m.
Play resumes with Tim Jernigan making a nice stop on Harvey Langi. He's definitely one of the stop uncommitted defensive lineman still available.
1:54 p.m.
Michael Bennett is slow to get up. Hopefully, he'll be fine. Hate seeing kids get hurt in all-star games.
1:49 p.m.
East attempts a field goal, but with seemingly the entire West team getting good penetration, it had no chance. West takes over near mid-field leading 10-0.
1:46 p.m.
Nice job by Oregon-bound Christian French walking down Demetrius Hart after a long run. If that took place at a track event, the entire crowd would've started yelling"Whoooooop!"
1:45 p.m.
After a long and highly-publicized recruiting process in which he really, truly did stress academics, Wayne Lyons commits to Stanford. Apparently, he's not concerned about the coaching situation.
1:39 p.m.
We finally have a touchdown, Cody Kessler to Jaxson Shipley from 35 yards out as the West takes a 10-0 lead. Shipley is certainly underrated. Much more than just Jordan's brother. The kid can flat out play.
1:35 p.m.
Seeing alot of Demetrius Hart on the broadcast in the second half. We had him as an All-American after he had over 50 TDs this year. However, most people who saw the 6A state finals came away more impressed with Florida State commitment Devonta Freeman.
1:29 p.m.
James Sample picks Washington and Gerod Holliman picks Louisville. Follows the recent history of Steve Sarkisian recruiting California well and Charlie Strong plucking kids from South Florida. Both coaches have done a great job recruiting early on at their respective positions.
1:19 p.m.
At the half, still 3-0 West.
As the score indicates, been a defensive battle.
1:16 p.m.
I like
J.W. Walsh. Mechanics may need some work when he gets to Oklahoma State, but he's definitely a playmaker. He showed it this season at Denton Guyer.
1:14 p.m.
Penn State lands a
Donovan Smith. It's been a struggle for PSU on the recruiting trail, but they've been making a nice run of late. They still have some big fish to fry though.
1:11 p.m.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins makes a grab for the West. Along with O'Leary and others, ASJ is part of a deep tight end class which, right now, appears to be much stronger than the 2012 class.
1:03 p.m.
One of the biggest recruits of the day to announce,
Colt Lyerla picks Oregon after flirting with USC. As Lemming and Taylor mentioned on TV, he's simply endowed with tremendous physical gifts.
12:59 p.m.
The East makes a nice stand, holding the West to a field goal by Ben Pruitt. West leads 3-0.
12:56 p.m.
Stefan McClure with a big play, takes an interception inside the 10-yard line bookended by an interview with Jack Nicklaus, O'Leary's grandfather.
12:52 p.m.
Why did Demetrius Hart field that punt? East will start on their own 1-yard line after the West goes three and out.
12:49 p.m.
After a 23-yard completion from teammate
Jacoby Brissett,
Nick O'Leary fumbles it back to the West. Lamar Dawson stripped him. Aaron Taylor says that O'Leary did not see player like that during his senior season. Glenville and Armwood beg to differ.
12:46 p.m.
No score after one quarter. Not a huge surprise. Looking forward to the offenses getting started though.
12:42 p.m.
Aaron Lynch comes up with a big sack for the East. By all accounts, he's had a great week. He originally committed to Notre Dame, then committed to Florida State. Now appears to be reconsidering the Fighting Irish.
12:36 p.m.
Tobias Singleton committing to Ole Miss is a bit of a surprise. Houston Nutt has not had much recruiting momentum lately. But as Aaron Taylor pointed out, distance (or rather, proximity) is key.
12:33 p.m.
Wayne Lyons as an All-American? Talented kid and major recruit, for sure. However, he missed much of the season due to injury, and did not have an All-American-type season.
12:30 p.m.
Nice to see
Kasen Williams in the game. Nice kid and outstanding talent. Has been making plays for Skyline since 2007.
12:28 p.m.
George Atkinson back to return punts for the West. He's got exceptional speed. Would love to see a foot race with him, De'Anthony Thomas, Miles Shuler, and others. That should be the half-time show.
12:25 p.m.
Phillip Ely in at quarterback. At this time two years ago, he was simply known as the kid who stepped in to replace Aaron Murray in the playoffs. He's come quite a long way since then, really making a name for himself.
12:21 p.m.
Both teams are struggling offensively. Same song and dance we saw on Wednesday night. I imagine they'll get into a groove soon. Too many explosive players.
12:15 p.m.De'Anthony Thomas was in on coverage on that big third down throw. He's one of the most exciting, athletic players in the country. However, he needs to get bigger, has been hit by injuries this season.
12:11 p.m.
Michael Bennett makes a big stop on third down. His Centerville team features a big a
'12 lineman to watch, Benny McGowan.
12:09 p.m.
Cody Kessler is starting behind center for the West. Nice prospect that might be underrated. Bakersfield is not a real recruiting hot spot. Could see him pushing
Max Wittek when they both arrive at USC.
12:08 p.m.
Bob Johnson and Lance Pogue are the two head coaches. Johnson has a fiery, in-your-face personality while Pogue is much more laid back. Time will tell if their personalities will shine through in how the game unfolds.
12:06 p.m.
Damian Swann kicks off the announcements by committing to Georgia, something that Dawg fans expected. Still, a nice grab by Mark Richt.
12:00 p.m.
The broadcast starts and it seems like
Ishaq Williams is going to hold off. Also, Calloway has officially decommitted from Alabama, will make his formal selection in the fourth quarter. Auburn fans are already counting him as a commit.
11:54 a.m.Lots of buzz that Brent Calloway has switched to Auburn. Haven't seen too many decommit from Nick Saban, but Craig Sanders made the same switch in 2009. It's definitely a significant move that would shake up our
team recruiting rankings.
11:50 a.m.Welcome to MaxPreps' live coverage of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Stephen Stephen Spiewak, national football editor, will have live updates and commentary throughout the game, which is set to kick off at 1 p.m. EST. In the mean time, check out our
college guide to the game.
