The best team doesn't always win in soccer. A couple wacky bounces, a stiff wind and a swampy field can all throw a team's advantage out the window in a sport where the chances to score are so few.
That's what makes the
Central Valley Christian (Visalia, Calif.) girls soccer team's streak of 101 straight league wins so amazing. Not once in a span of 101 league contests did the Cavaliers have a bad - or unlucky - day.
CVC's assault on the California state record for most consecutive girls soccer league wins continues, as it is just three short of the 104-win standard that
Bonita (La Verne, Calif.) set up until 2003.
According to the Visalia Times-Delta, the last time the Cavaliers tasted defeat against a league opponent was in 2002. MaxPreps records show that CVC moved into the Central Sequoia League for the 2008-09 season, and the dominance was going on before that in the East Sequoia League.
The Times-Delta reports that the defending Central Section champion Cavaliers could tie the record Jan. 20 at Selma, and could break the state standard Jan. 24 at home against Immanuel (Reedley, Calif.). Of course, that is barring cancellations, postponements, a tie or a loss.
CVC beat Selma 3-1 earlier this year and pasted Immanuel 11-0, helping lead to a
No. 43 spot in the MaxPreps National Girls Soccer Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
