Covering High School Sports in America

Jadeveon Clowney's earth-shattering hit against Michigan running back Vincent Smith in the 2013 Outback Bowl is one of the most popular college football highlights of all time, and with good reason.

Clowney leveled Smith cleanly, sending his helmet flying and then forcing and recovering a fumble.

High school football has not seen anything like it, but the hit that Hill City (Kan.) wide receiver Mekhai Bates delivered in a game recently is the next best thing.

On a broken play, running back Gabe Hamel attempts to cut back and head the opposite direction.

As he makes his move, Bates seemingly comes out of nowhere and delivers a brutal block, sending the would-be tackler to the ground and his helmet flying an additional five yards.

Most importantly, there was no flag on the play.
