Covering High School Sports in America
A first-class baseball program christened its new first-class baseball stadium Saturday.

Before a list of dignitaries that included former Major League star and alumnus Will Clark, Jesuit (New Orleans) christened $8 million John Ryan Stadium with a 6-1 victory against Holy Cross. Nearly 1,500 people attended the opener.

"This is really big because you got a chance to see how successful Jesuit athletics have been over the years and now to have a facility like this is pretty amazing," Clark, a 1982 graduate, told The Times-Picayune.

The new stadium features FieldTurf and has such amenities as a covered grandstand and a digital widescreen scoreboard, as well as a 2,400 square-foot batting facility behind center field. The stadium is named after John Ryan, a 1970 Jesuit graduate who donated $1 million for the facility.
