Adam Wood, a rising junior from Zionsville (Ind.)
, won the 95th Western Junior golf championship on Friday at Village of Golf, Fla.
Wood, who shot under par in each of his four rounds during the week, finished with a score of 279, which was nine strokes under par. The Duke University pledge won by four shots over a trio of golfers. The top four qualified for the upcoming Western Amateur at Exmoor Country Club in Highland Park, Ill.
The newly crowned champion told media members, "I had my A game the entire week and I hit the shots when I had to. I shot myself out of last year's tournament on the back nine when I was in contention, but this is a fantastic tournament filled with some of the best players in the world and I'm glad I'm joining a group of such prestigious champions."
