Covering High School Sports in America
North Carolina State basketball recruit Rodney Purvis poured in a school-record 53 points Friday night while leading Upper Room Christian Academy (Raleigh, N.C.) to a 105-75 victory over Body of Christ (Raleigh, N.C.).

Purvis made nine 3-point baskets to help erase his previous school record of 46, which he established last year as a junior. He also had six rebounds and five assists.

Coach Avie Lester told the Raleigh New & Observer, "Teams have really been clogging the lanes recently and Rodney has worked a lot on his perimeter shooting. I've never seen him like he was tonight."

* Providence (Burbank, Calif.) defeated Kilpatrick (Malibu, Calif.) 74-61 as freshman Marcus LoVett Jr. scored 46 points.

* Vanderbilt recruit Kristen Gaffney injured her knee early in the second quarter, but Green Hope (Cary, N.C.) still was able to defeat Hillside (Durham, N.C.) 54-45 to win the Class 4A Mideast sectional. Junior point guard Ashley Williams scored all 30 of her points after Gaffney was forced out of the game.
