One of Ohio's top coaches is stepping aside at the end of the year.
As reported by The Plain Dealer
, Western Reserve Academy (Hudson, Ohio)
field hockey coach Marie Fiedler is retiring after 49 years. She owns a career record of 470-114-69 and went 451-105-63 in 40 seasons at Western Reserve Academy. The Pioneers went 15-1-1 last season.
The newspaper noted that the only thing missing on Fiedler's impressive resume is a state championship, but the school was not allowed to compete in the playoffs because it is not a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
"I have no regrets concerning that," the 72-year-old Fiedler told the newspaper. "There were years we beat the best teams in the state so they knew we had the best team."
