Covering High School Sports in America
One of Ohio's top coaches is stepping aside at the end of the year.

As reported by The Plain Dealer, Western Reserve Academy (Hudson, Ohio) field hockey coach Marie Fiedler is retiring after 49 years. She owns a career record of 470-114-69 and went 451-105-63 in 40 seasons at Western Reserve Academy. The Pioneers went 15-1-1 last season.

The newspaper noted that the only thing missing on Fiedler's impressive resume is a state championship, but the school was not allowed to compete in the playoffs because it is not a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

"I have no regrets concerning that," the 72-year-old Fiedler told the newspaper. "There were years we beat the best teams in the state so they knew we had the best team."
