J.T. Granato is the newest Rice Owl commit thanks to an unusual recruiting tactic.

Recruiting tactics have gotten decidedly creative in recent years.

But a letter addressed to a house cat? That's a first.

Rice wrote a letter addressed to Kitty Granato (the cat's real name is White Sox), the pet of Kinkaid (Houston) quarterback J.T. Granato, asking for the feline's assistance in wooing Granato to the Houston-area university.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the mailing read, "Please help us to get him to choose us. Paw me if you have any questions."

The ploy worked — Granato gave a pledge to Rice on Thursday, and tweeted about how the letter helped him realize Rice was the purrfect fit for him (sorry, we couldn't help ourselves).
