Covering High School Sports in America
With National Signing Day closing in, some notable football commitments, flips and other general banter:

* One of Georgia's top defensive ends, Sheldon Rankins of Eastside (Covington, Ga.), committed to Louisville over Wake Forest according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Rankins (6-3, 255) had 26 scholarship offers.

* The AJC is also reporting that Georgia's top uncommitted prospect, Henry County (McDonough, Ga.) defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson (6-3, 270) is leaning toward Georgia Tech over Alabama and Georgia.

* The News & Observer reported that Broughton (Raleigh, N.C.) linebacker Drew Davis (6-4, 240) flipped his pick from Minnesota to stay near home to play at North Carolina State. Very near home. "I can just about walk to the stadium," he told the newspaper.

* Sunset (Portland, Ore.) defensive lineman David Fennell (6-3, 275), the son of Canadian Football League hall of famer Dave Fennell, has committed to Michigan State, according to the Oregonian.

* The Seattle Times reported that Bellevue (Bellevue, Wash.) offensive lineman Jake Eldrenkamp (6-5, 295) committed to the University of Washington, the third offensive lineman from the state to pledge their allegiance to the Huskies.

The state is loaded with blue chip offensive lineman and everyone is still waiting to hear where the two best, Zach Banner, of Lakes (Lakewood, Wash.) and Puyallup's Josh Garnett will land.

Banner (6-8, 295) is ranked the 21st best recruit in the country overall by MaxPreps.com and Garnett (6-5, 300) is No. 26.
