Stephenville (Texas) routed previously unbeaten El Campo 70-35 Friday night to win the Class 3A Division I state football crown before a crowd of 17,655 at Cowboys Stadium.

It marked the fifth state title for the Yellowjackets (13-1), who previously had been a Class 4A school.

The Dallas Morning News reported that senior quarterback Tyler Jones earned MVP honors with a spectacular performance. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder accounted for nine touchdowns by completing 25 of 32 passes for 432 yards and five touchdowns while running 12 times for 124 yards and four touchdowns. Earlier in the year he threw eight touchdown passes - two short of the state record - in a single game.

Brice Gunter, a 6-3, 185-pound senior wide receiver, caught nine passes for 158 yards and three touchdowns.

Bryce Brandl paced El Campo (14-1), rushing for 149 yards and three touchdowns and passing for 131 yards.
