Tyra Buss, Mt. Carmel

Relentless scoring machine Tyra Buss poured in 50 points in just three quarters while pacing Mt. Carmel (Ill.) to an 86-57 basketball victory over Boonville (Ind.). The win gave the Aces the championship in the Big 8 Conference for the second time in the past three years and a perfect 28-0 record.

According to the Daily Republican Register, the 5-foot-7 junior guard has reached the 50-point plateau five times during her brilliant career. She also now is the No. 4 career scorer in Illinois history with 3,242 points. With 1,116 points this year, she is 87 points short of the state record for one season.

Coach Tim Willis said he was particularly pleased by his team's 31-22 rebound advantage against a team featuring players standing 6-2 and 6-1.

Because the victory was on the road, Willis brought his girls back home and let them celebrate by cutting down the nets.

The Aces complete their regular season tonight against Eldorado, seeking their first unbeaten record in history.
