Tshumbi Johnson completed a 2-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Richardson as time expired to give Immokalee a chance to tie, or even defeat, Godby (Tallahassee) in the Florida Class 5A state finals Friday.

However Immokalee (11-4) was unable to get the snap down on the extra point and Godby intercepted the ensuing pass on the botched play to preserve the 21-20 win.

Godby (14-1) held a 21-7 lead in the fourth quarter on touchdown runs by J.T. Bradwell, Khalid Thomas and Tim Longmire, but Immokalee got back into the game behind the play of Johnson, who ran for two touchdowns and passed for another. For the game, Johnson rushed 20 times for 60 yards and completed 24 of 39 passes for 301 yards. He was intercepted three times.

Johnson had closed the gap to 21-14 with 4:36 left in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run. He also had a 7-yard scoring run in the third quarter to make it 13-7.

Longmire opened the scoring for Godby with a 1-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Bradwell added a 6-yard touchdown run with 5:20 remaining in the first half.

After Johnson scored in the third quarter for Immokalee, Thomas ran one in from the 28 for Godby with 5:54 left in the fourth quarter.

Bradwell finished with 67 yards on 17 carries while Thomas added 64 on 13 carries. Bradwell also completed 10 of 21 passes for 108 yards and one interception.

D'ernest Johnson led Immokalee with 63 yards rushing on 17 carries and he also caught six passes for 126 yards.
