Scoring Summary

First Quarter Summary:

Neither team could score in the first period. Turnovers were a problem for the Bison in the first half.

Second Quarter Summary:

Lexington took a 7 to 0 halftime lead to the locker room when Ryan Reynolds caught a 24 yard pass from Jeremy Callahan with 4:26 left in the 2nd quarter. Callahan's PAT was good completing an 80 yard drive.

Third Quarter Summary:

Lexington held off McCook and took a 7 to 0 lead into the final quarter despite McCook moving the football.

Fourth Quarter Summary:

McCook tied the game at the 11:04 mark in the 4th quarter when Matt Chitwood scored on a 14 yard run. Chitwood made the PAT.
Lexington had a chance late in the period with a 3rd and 8 from the 10 yard line. Callahan however fumbled at the McCook 5 and the Bison recovered. McCook tried to run out the clock but Lexington head coach Phil Truax using timeouts preserved a few seconds on the clock hoping for one more chance. McCook head coach Jeff Gross gambled going for a first down at the Bison's own 14 yard line. Chittwood was stuffed by the Minutemen defense and Lexington had a second chance at the upset. After two plays failed to score a touchdown Lexington used its last time up to set up a game winning field goal attempt from 28 yards by Callahan. The Bison however blocked the attempt. A McCook player picked up the ball and started off down the far side line. Callahan was able to catch him a yard away from pay dirt and the game was sent to overtime.

Overtime Summary:

In the first OT Lexington winning the toss elected to go on defense first. Chad Wudtke scored for McCook on a nine yard pass from Chittwood. Incredibly Chitwood pushed his PAT wide of the goal opening the door for Lexington one more time.
On Lexington's first play, QB Callahan handed off to Joe Walker who took off on a run around the right end. Walker however pulled up and threw a pass back to Callahan who caught the ball and raced untouched into the end zone to tie the game at 13.
On the PAT attempt McCook jumped offside moving the ball to one and half yard line. On the second attempt, holder Alex Hovie could not field the low snap and was smothered by a host of Bison sending the contest to a second OT.
Lexington now had first attempt to try to score again. On the first play, Hovie fumbled and McCook recovered.
Coach Gross wasted little time in making his decision to send Chitwood out for the winning field goal. Chitwood calmly split the uprights from 27yards for the victory.
