Game Summary

Florida High School Baseball - Calvary Christian edged by Hernando Christian Academy

(February 28, 2009: Brooksville, FL 34601) The Hernando Christian Academy Lions got by the visiting Calvary Christian Warriors baseball team by a count of 12-11 in Saturday's non-league bout.

The Lions now possess a 4-0 record. They take the field next when they host Cedar Key for a 1A District 6 bout on Tuesday, March 3. Hernando Christian Academy will face a Sharks team coming off a 21-0 league loss to Hernando Christian Academy (Brooksville, FL). The Sharks record now stands at 0-2.

Next, the Warriors face the Tampa Prep Terrapins (Tampa, FL) in a 2A District 9 bout, on Tuesday, March 3. Calvary Christian will attempt to move on its 5-3 season record. The Terrapins enter the bout with a 3-4 record after their 8-3 non-league win over Booker (Sarasota, FL).

Scoring Summary

Calvary lost the most excruciating heartbreaker today 12-11 against Hernando Christian Academy. CCHS opened the game explosively with 5 runs in the first on 7 hits and a hit batsman consecutively, but HCA came right back with 4 of their own in the bottom of the first. Brett Zitzelberg and Andrew Davis each contributed 2 run doubles. The game stayed 5-4 until HCA scored 7 in the 6th including 6 after there was 2 outs as CCHS made 3 mental errors in the field. But as we are “WARRIORS”, the TEAM stormed back in their last chance in the 7th scoring 6 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks, including Josh Conrad’s 2 run game tying double. That made it 11-11, but with 2 outs and none on, HCA shortstop Ian Townsend got a single, stole second, and scored on a slow roller to shortstop and the lightning fast sophomore beat the relay home for a heartbreaking 12-11 loss for Calvary.
