California High School Soccer - St. Francis overwhelmed by Soquel

(February 7, 2012: Soquel, CA 95073) The Soquel Knights smashed the visiting St. Francis Sharks soccer squad by a margin of 6-0 in Tuesday's league match.

The Knights now sport a 6-5 record. They play next when they travel to Harbor for a SCCAL match on Thursday, February 9. Soquel will face a Pirates team coming off a 1-1 league Aptos (Aptos, CA). The Pirates record now stands at 3-4.

The Sharks now have a 0-11 record. They take the field next when they host Santa Cruz for a SCCAL contest on Thursday, February 9. St. Francis will face a Cardinals team coming off a 1-0 league win over Scotts Valley (Scotts Valley, CA). The Cardinals record now stands at 7-2.

Scoring Summary

Under the lights at Soquel High, St. Francis was ready to put the pressure on! Soquel got lucky enough to squeeze in a goal within the first few minutes, but that didn't stop the Sharks from making them earn their time on the shark's half of the field. The sharks were able to make several great passing plays, entering Soquel's territory several times in the first half. Returning sophomore Maddy Baretto had one of her best games yet! She was able to win the ball for St. Francis numerous times and make a play up the field with it. Soquel managed to put away 3 more goals in the first half, but the shark's defense didn't make it easy. Claire Arbios was able to stop many of Soquel's goal-attemps. The sharks started out strong in the second half. Alexis Lily found her way to the Knight's territory with Alicia Castro. They were able to fire off a couple shots on goal, keeping the Knight's on their toes. Soquel scored 2 more goals in the second half. Gabi Pezinni had 13 saves.
