Texas High School Basketball - Rice Consolidated thwarted by Hempstead

(February 10, 2012: Altair, TX 77412) The Rice Consolidated Raiders basketball team (Altair, TX), dropped 57-38 in Friday's league battle with the visiting Hempstead Bobcats (Hempstead, TX)

The Bobcats now possess a 7-4 record. They play next when they travel to Weimar for a 2A Region IV District 28 battle on Saturday, February 11. Hempstead will battle a Wildcats team coming off a 44-39 league win over Brazos (Wallis, TX). The Wildcats record now stands at 4-19.

The Raiders now hold a 11-18 record.

Scoring Summary

First Quarter Summary:
Hempstead jumped out to a 16-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. Rice had trouble with the hard man to man pressure defense. David Michalak had two points and Jonovan Allen had one.
Second Quarter Summary:
The second quarter was much better as the Raiders and the Bobcats each scored 12 points. Michalak had five points, Everitt Grounds had four, Cristian Samaniego had two, and Allen had one. At half time Hempstead held a 28-15 lead.
Third Quarter Summary:
At halftime Rice celebrated parents night and would like to say thanks to all the parents and guardians who support their Raiders.In the third quarter Hempstead outscored Rice 12-7 to take a 40-22 lead. Lorenzo Anderson scored four points and Michalak hit a three pointer to lead the Raiders. Fourth Quarter Summary:
Hempstead again outscored the Raiders 17-16 to close the game with a 57-38 win. This win keeps Hempstead's playoff hopes alive. The Raiders were led in scoring by Grounds with 11 points, Michalak had three, and Allen scored two. Rice paid tribute to this year's seniors by letting them finish the game in style. The seniors for 2012 are Jonovan Allen, Sean Torres, David Michalak, Cristian Samaniego, Lorenzo Anderson, and Anthony Serio. They did a great job leading this team with great attitudes. The three underclassmen, which are Everitt Grounds, J'MarKus Hodge, and Jordan Johnson, will step up and lead the Raiders next year. Coach Lantelme would also like to thank his two managers, Juanita Ruiz and Miracle Black for all of their hard work. They are great young ladies. Coach Lantelme would like to thank Billy Anderson for being a great assistant coach. Last but not least, Coach Lantelme would like to thank his family, Melinda, Cody, and Lindy for all of their support.
