California High School Volleyball - Verdugo Hills Eagle Rock

(March 3, 2010: Los Angeles, CA 90041) The Eagle Rock Eagles topped the visiting Verdugo Hills Dons volleyball team by a score of 3-1 in Wednesday's non-league test.

The Eagles now have a 1-0 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Jordan for a non-league test on Thursday, March 4. Eagle Rock will confront a Bulldogs team coming off a 3-1 non-league loss to El Camino Real (Woodland Hills, CA). The Bulldogs record now stands at 0-1.

The Dons (0-1) will now prepare for their test against Banning (Wilmington, CA). The Pilots enter the non-league test with a 1-0 record. In their last test, Banning gained a win over Fremont (Los Angeles, CA), 3-1, in a non-league test.

Scoring Summary

Notes: In a possible preview of the Division II city championship game the Eagles outplayed the Dons when it mattered most. Eagle Rock staved off SIX game points in the critical third set to win 35-33 and after trading punches early in the fourth set the Eagles got separation from the Dons behind OH Daniel Cruz, who returned to action despite suffering an ankle injury in the second set. Cruz delivered the game winning kill for the host Eagles. The Dons were paced by Senior MB Phil Gonzales' 17 kills and blocks. Sophomore OH CJ Suarez added 14 kills and & digs. 4. Junior MB Chris Dees of Verdugo Hills, still in playoffs for the #2 Dons basketball team, did not play.
