Florida High School Baseball - Plant City can't hold off Armwood

(April 17, 2009: Plant City, FL 33563) In Friday's non-league game, the visiting Armwood Hawks baseball team scored a tight 1-0 victory over the Plant City Raiders.

The Hawks (19-4) will now prepare for their game against East Bay (Gibsonton, FL). The Indians go into the non-league game with a 5-15 record. In their last game, East Bay tipped Lennard (Ruskin, FL), 5-2, in a non-league game.

The Raiders (8-14) will now prepare for their game against Brandon (Brandon, FL). The Eagles go into the non-league game with a 17-5 record. In their last game, Brandon tipped Spoto (Riverview, FL), 4-3, in a non-league game.
Scoring Summary

The Hawks got stellar pitching and great defense to overcome a bad night at the plate, scoring an unearned run in the eighth for a 1-0 win over Plant City at the Raiders' Field Friday night. Zack Powers, Josh Spano, Jake Spano and Tyler Alexander controlled the Raiders bats, had a combined 13 strikeouts, 5 walks, two hit batters, and gave up only one hit. Jake Spano got the win and Tyler Alexander struck out the side in the eighth for the save. Joe Cartwright, who had reached base on a single, scored the only run of the game on a throwing error by the Plant City third baseman in the top of the eighth inning. The Hawks managed only five hits, all singles, and left the bases loaded twice. The team is now 19-4, and their final regular season game is at home Tuesday night against East Bay. It will be Senior Night, and five players will be honored (Robert Benincasa, Kristian Calibuso, Joe Cartwright, Billy Farrell, and Jake Spano) . The ceremony starts at 6:40pm and the game is at 7
