(December 9, 2011: Petal, MS 39465) Fans at Friday's non-league challenge between the Laurel Golden Tornadoes (Laurel, MS) and the host Petal Panthers (Petal, MS), saw Laurel's basketball squad knock off Petal by a score of 60-48.

With the victory, Laurel improves its record to 8-1 on the campaign. The Golden Tornadoes travel to Newton County (Decatur, MS) to play the Cougars in a 4A Region 5 challenge on Friday, December 16. The Cougars come into the challenge with a record of 5-4.

Next up, the Panthers play the West Jones Mustangs (Laurel, MS) in a non-league challenge, on Tuesday, December 13. Petal will attempt to improve on its 8-2 season record. The Mustangs go into the test with a 3-4 record after their 52-41 non-league win over Northeast Jones (Laurel, MS).
