Florida High School Baseball - Lennard loses to Armwood

(February 28, 2009: Ruskin, FL ) The Lennard Longhorns baseball team (Ruskin, FL), 13-10 in Saturday's non-league outing with the visiting Armwood Hawks (Seffner, FL)

The Hawks now hold a 5-0 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Brandon for a 5A District 8 outing on Tuesday, March 3. Armwood will confront a Eagles team coming off a 8-6 league win over Newsome (Lithia, FL). The Eagles record now stands at 4-0.

Next, the Longhorns confront the Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders (Clearwater, FL) in a 3A District 11 outing, on Tuesday, March 3. Lennard will attempt to advance on its 0-5 season record.
Scoring Summary

The offense made up for a sluggish pitching and defense as the Hawks outlasted Lennard 13-10 on the road Saturday. The team pounded 12 hits, including three doubles by catcher Tanner Emmons, who also had three RBIs, four hits, two of them doubles by Sean Cramer, and three hits by Joe Cartwright, with two RBIs. Billy Farrell and Kristian Calibuso each got two hits. Zack Powers hit a bases loaded double for three RBIs. Ty Alexander picked up the win in four tough innings. Sean Cramer came in to pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh and struck out the only two batters he faced to get his first save. The team made five errors to allow the Longhorns to stay in the game. Lennard had four timely hits, but one of them was a home run by SS Vasquez.The Longhorns faught their way back into the game as the Hawks led 6-1 in the third.
