Texas High School Basketball - Strake Jesuit prevails Spring Woods

(February 13, 2009: Houston, TX 77080) Strake Jesuit Crusaders (Houston, TX) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the host Spring Woods Tigers (Houston, TX), 62-48 in a league bout.

With the win, Strake Jesuit upgrades its record to 31-0 on the season. The Crusaders travel to Stratford (Houston, TX) to encounter the Spartans in a 5A Region III District 18 bout on Tuesday, February 17. The Spartans go into the bout with a record of 20-10.

Next up, the Tigers encounter the Memorial Mustangs (Houston, TX) in a 5A Region III District 18 bout, on Tuesday, February 17. Spring Woods will attempt to upgrade on its 3-23 season record.

Scoring Summary

First Quarter Summary:: The Tigers came out ready to give the number one team all it could handle. The Crusaders' defense wavered at times during the 1st, allowing the Tigers to stay close.
Second Quarter Summary:: The Tiger's hot shooting continued as the Crusaders tried to pull away on 2 occassions, only to see their lead erased by big 3 point shots from Spring Woods. They would finish the half tied, as Spring Woods shot 67% from behind the arc and Jesuit shot a low 33% in field goals.
Third Quarter Summary:: The Crusaders came out with a sense of urgency at the start of the 3rd going on an 8-0 run. The Tigers tried to keep up but found themselves falling further behind, shooting the ball at 73%.
Fourth Quarter Summary:: The 4th quarter wasn't any better for the Tigers as the Crusaders opened their lead to 14 and capped off the night with one of the biggest highlights of the season as #23 Tim Frazier jumped completely OVER a defender on a fast break for a high flying dunk.
