The 1st half was one of our better halves of the season as Hempstead has been ranked in the top 20 this year. Hempstead has a lot of athletes and play hard man to man pressure the whole game.
Third Quarter Summary:
Rice started the 2nd half in great shape and actually had a 12 point lead midway thru the quarter. After a Hempstead time out, momentum started turning for the Bobcats and a long 3 point shot from half court cut the Raider lead to 39 - 37 going into the fourth quarter. Everitt Grounds scored 6 points, Anderson 4, Michalak 3 and Jonovan Allen 1 to lead the Raiders in that quarter.
Fourth Quarter Summary:
The fourth quarter was an exciting finish to a great ballgame for the Raiders, Hempstead finally took the lead, but the Raiders fought back behind Grounds who acored 9 of his game high 17 points down the stretch. Grounds scored on 3 straight possession ( two 2 pointers and a huge 3 pointer) propelling the Raiders back into the lead and then Allen made a basket and was fouled and completed the 3 point play with a clutch freethrow. Michalak hit two late freethrows and Anderson hit a freethrow to finish the scoring for the Raiders. Rice and Hempstead each scored 15 points in the 4th quarter, with Rice claiming a 54 - 52 victory. This win puts us right back in the district race for a playoff spot with a 3 - 3 district record.
