Washington High School Volleyball - Juanita tips Mercer Island

(October 5, 2011: Mercer Island, WA 98040) The crowd at Wednesday's league bout between the Juanita Rebels (Kirkland, WA) and the host Mercer Island Islanders (Mercer Island, WA), saw Juanita's volleyball squad nip Mercer Island by a tally of 3-2.

With the win, Juanita upgrades its record to 7-4 on the year. The Rebels host Bellevue (Bellevue, WA) to play the Wolverines in a 2A/3A KingCo bout on Monday, October 10. The Wolverines go into the bout with a record of 4-7. Bellevue won 3-2 in their recent league bout against Liberty (Renton, WA)

The Islanders now own a 8-3 record. They play next when they travel to Interlake for a 2A/3A KingCo bout on Monday, October 10. Mercer Island will play a Saints squad coming off a 3-2 league win over Lake Washington (Kirkland, WA). The Saints record now stands at 8-3.

Scoring Summary

Juanita Rebels volleyball won the game, Wednesday October 5th, against undefeated Mercer Island Islanders. They took the match in five games winning 3-2. The scores were 25-12, 21-25, 23-25, 25-18 and 15-8. Senior and Captain Dana Michaels led the team with 27 kills, 21 digs, 2.5 blocks, and 2 aces. Close to follow was Sophomore Theresa Laufasa with 13 kills, 16 digs, 1 block, and 3 aces. And two Juniors, Kelsey Camilleri-Espinoza with 15 digs and 5 aces and Natasha Hatch with 13 digs helping the defense tremendously throughout the match. Junior Jade Finau averaging with 9 assists per set for a total of 45 for the match. Even the girls that weren't on the court played a significant role in the win, cheering for their team and being excellent supporters even through the two losses that they had tonight. Way to go Lady Rebs!
