California High School Basketball - Inglewood holds off Woodrow Wilson

(December 10, 2011: Inglewood, CA 90301) Inglewood Sentinels (Inglewood, CA) backers were pleased Saturday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the visiting Woodrow Wilson Bruins (Long Beach, CA), 48-44 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Inglewood upgrades its record to 5-3 on the campaign. The Sentinels host Saugus (Saugus, CA) to battle the Centurions in a non-league battle on Friday, December 16. The Centurions come into the battle with a record of 2-5. Saugus lost 54-36 in their recent non-league battle against Rio Mesa (Oxnard, CA)

The Bruins (3-6) will now prepare for their battle against Jordan (Long Beach, CA). The Panthers come into the Moore battle with a 1-6 record.

Scoring Summary

First Quarter Summary:
The Bruins started slowly as Michaela Reed was the only one able to score with 4 points and the Bruins fell behind after the first quarter 16-4. Joi Bertrand had 4 rebounds and 4 blocked shots in the quarter but picked up two early fouls. The Bruins shot 1 for 15 in the quarter.
Second Quarter Summary:
With Michaela Reed scoring 5 points and Joi Bertrand 4 points, 6 rebounds and 2 more blocked shots the Bruins offense began to produce and the defense made some stops. But J. Bertrand got her third foul. At the time she had 10 rebounds, 2 steals, 6 blocks and 4 points. The Bruins end the half trailing 25-13.
Third Quarter Summary:
The third quarter saw the Bruins tighten up their defense on everyone but number 30. The Bruins were able to cut the score to 35-30 at the end of the quarter with Michaela Reeds 10pts, Shelvena Turners 5 pts, and Andee Flores 2 pts and 4 assist from Janelle Porter.
Fourth Quarter Summary:
The Bruins could never get closer then four as Zhane Carter #30 finished with 22 points. By the time the box and one was employed the lead was too much to over come as the Bruins went stagnant on offense. M. Reed continued to score with 7 points, J. Bertrand had 4 points, and J. Porter hit a 3 pointer. The Bruins loss by a score of 48-44 and their record fell to 3-6. Next up is the first Moore League game against LB Jordan at home on December 21st at 5pm, and followed by game against an improved Lakewood team December 23rd at 3pm. Then the Gahr Tourney December 27th at Gahr and first round opponent will be Artersia HS.
