(February 12, 2012: Birmingham, AL 35223) The Mountain Brook Spartans lacrosse team (Birmingham, AL), was edged 8-6 in Sunday's non-league outing with the visiting St. Paul Wolves (Covington, LA)

With the triumph, St. Paul upgrades its record to 8-3 on the season. The Wolves host Caddo Magnet (Shreveport, LA) to face the Mustangs in a non-league battle on Sunday, February 26. The Mustangs come into the battle with a record of 0-1. Caddo Magnet lost 7-4 in their recent non-league battle against Houston (Germantown, TN)

In their next game, the Spartans face the Centennial Cougars (Franklin, TN) in a non-league battle, on Saturday, February 25. Mountain Brook will attempt to move on its 0-1 season record.

Scoring Summary

The St. Paul Wolves bounced back after a tough loss at Hoover to outscore the Mountain Brook Spartans 8-6 in the Spartan season opener at the Rathmell Sports Park in Birmingham, AL.

The Wolves withstood a three minute illegal stick penalty to begin the second quarter and took the lead for good behind another strong showing by senior midfielder Kyle Carriere (3g, 1a) and junior attackman Danny Dubuc (3g, 2a).

In the second half, the Wolves and Spartans traded goals with the Wolves answering every Spartan threat. Brandon Power (1g) and Christian Voelkel (1g, 1a) each scored crucial goals for the Wolves.

Alex Autin had 8 saves to earn the win. Leading the defense were Austin Carriere, David Steckman, Jonathan Sigler, Chris Dufour, Alex Hughes, Zander Smith and middie Aaron Falkenstein. Middie Brett Scheuermann contibuted on the Wolves man down defense. Sophomore LSM Luke Posner scooped 5 ground balls and caused two turnovers.
