Game Summary

New York High School Basketball - Peekskill trounced by Mt. Vernon

(December 21, 2007: Mt. Vernon, NY 10552) In Friday's non-league match, the host Mt. Vernon Knights basketball team scored a decisive 71-40 triumph over the Peekskill Red Devils.

With the triumph, Mt. Vernon moves its record to 4-0 on the year. The Knights travel to Jamesville-DeWitt (DeWitt, NY) to face the Red Rams in a non-league match on Friday, December 28. The Red Rams enter the match with a record of 2-0.

With the defeat, Peekskill moves to 4-3 on the year. The Red devils host Yorktown (Yorktown Heights, NY) to face the Huskers in a non-league match on Friday, January 4. The Huskers enter the match with a record of 2-5.

Scoring Summary

First Quarter Summary:
The first quarter started pretty close in the first four minutes. However a full disply of team basketball helped MV jump out to a 21 - 9 lead. Although we tried to press PHS did a good job of breaking it. 7 players scored for MV in the first qrtr with 3 ppls scoring 4 each.

Second Quarter Summary:
The second qrtr continued with MV dominance. This time 8 people scored. Nadia Duncan led the way with 8 points and Kwinnyata Mercer had 5. PHS only scored 9 points. Ghanesha Ford and Sheridan Taylor each scored 4.

Third Quarter Summary:
The scoring barage lessened for MV this qrtr and we tried to lessen the defensive pressure by not pressing and playing zone... PHS scored 9 again. Milan Kunin scored 4. Kwinnyata Mercer scored 13 to lead MV in the qrtr.

Fourth Quarter Summary:
PHS won the fourth qrtr by points 13-11. Sheridan Taylor scored 7 points in the quarter. MV played much of the fourth qrtr with the reserves.
