Texas High School Basketball - Memorial falls to Strake Jesuit

(January 27, 2009: Houston, TX 77024) The Strake Jesuit Crusaders basketball team scored 59 points and held the host Memorial Mustangs to 39 in the Crusaders league triumph on Tuesday.

The Crusaders now sport a 26-0 record. They put it on the line next when they host Northbrook for a 5A Region III District 18 contest on Friday, January 30.

The Mustangs (11-12) will now prepare for their contest against Stratford (Houston, TX). The Spartans enter the 5A Region III District 18 contest with a 14-9 record.

Scoring Summary

First Quarter Summary:: The Mustangs jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as the Crusaders looked to get on track at Memorial's court. A quick adjustment on defense helped Jesuit to go on a 12-2 run to finish the quarter in the lead.
Second Quarter Summary:: Better transition from defense to offense allowed the Crusaders to get easy scoring. Key contributions off the bench by role players allowed the Crusaders to take in a halftime lead.
Third Quarter Summary:: The Crusaders' defense opened up the game in this quarter with big steals, big finishes, and bigger dunks. A 23-10 quarter made the Mustangs change their defensive scheme and try to find ways to slow the Crusaders down.
Fourth Quarter Summary:: With the game out of reach by the Mustangs, the Crusaders spread the floor and looked for open layups. The starting five were allowed to leave the floor to a standing ovation as they had done their job by playing a "workman's defense" against Memorial.
