San Diego, CA- December 10, 2008- On the day after Christmas, San Diegans will wake up to the best High School Basketball tournament in the nation. Teams from all over the US and Canada will converge on five local High Schools, (Torrey Pines, Cathedral, La Costa Canyon, Rancho Bernardo, and Westview) to play in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic National Tournament, which runs December 26-30, 2008
The MaxPreps Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament is a Nationally Sanctioned tournament that attracts the best players and high school teams in the United States. Tournament attendance is approximately 20,000. Four of the top ranked High School players in the nation (Abdul Gaddy from Tacoma, WA; Dominic Cheek from Jersey City, NJ; Brendan Lane from Rocklin, CA; and Jeremy Tyler from San Diego, CA) will be showcased at the tournament.
This is the 19th year of the MaxPreps Holiday Classic Tournament and promises to be the most exciting tournament yet. The depth of the National Division is phenomenal with multiple schools in the top 25 of the MaxPreps and State Top 20 Division 1 rankings.
Seventy-seven (77) High School teams will compete in the 2008 Tournament. Among these highly recognized teams will be St Anthony from New Jersey who finished #1 in the nation, Bellarmine from Washington, as well as Pasadena, West Valley, and Simi Valley from Southern California. Locally, San Diego High School with Jeremy Tyler ranked # 1 junior in the country, Torrey Pines, La Costa Canyon, Rancho Bernardo, and Carlsbad will be showcased in the tournament.
In the past, many future NBA stars and superstars have played at the Tournament including Stephon Marbury (New York Knicks), Lamar Odom (Los Angeles Lakers), Erik Barkley (Portland Trail Blazers), , Speedy Claxton (Charlotte Hornets) and Scott Pollard (Indiana Pacers), Craig Smith (Minnesota Timberwolves), Casey Jacobsen (Memphis Grizzlies), C.J. Watson (Golden State Warriors), Marcus Williams (Golden State Warriors), Brook Lopez (New Jersey Nets) and Robin Lopez (Phoenix Suns) to name a few.
Games are scheduled throughout the day. Adult tickets are only $8, students with IDs $5, senior citizens and children aged 6-12 $5, and children under 5 are free.
