Wow, it's been a great time here in Miami! Despite the 95 degree weather, Boston and Seattle definitely don't compare during this time of the year… especially with high school football! From day 1 this week, Casey and I have been covering Miami Central and Team Nike's every move. From the Nike hydration station and brand new cleats, to the Rockets tough practices on the field, we've been impressed with each step. Finally the day we've all been waiting for has arrived and Nike still has more. To accommodate the fresh kicks and shirts each player was given, Team Nike presented the team with hot new Miami Central Jerseys!
With the game later in the evening, the Rockets had one more surprise coming to them. A pep rally! And this was easily one of the more exciting rally's I've ever attended. With a full marching band jamming away, students and teachers were pumped up. But this was only the beginning. The local radio station Power 96 was also in the building showing the Rockets some support. And then a dance group who performed would probably have been the highlight in most other pep rallies but not here. What really got the players and students amped up, was Miami's own, Iceberg. Getting the crowd on their feet and rocking to his tunes, he performed a few songs that got everyone excited!
With the country having the chance to watch the game on national television, it is clear this is one of the most anticipated games of the regular season; Miami Central vs. Miami Northwestern. Expecting such a large number of fans, the game had to be moved to FIU's stadium. It was a tough battle for both teams but there could only be one winner. We had a great time here in Miami with the Rockets community, and wish them the best of luck with the rest of their season! Check out our video to hear what happened.

Its day 3 of MaxPreps and Team Nike being on the Miami Central's campus, and the Rockets community has truly gotten comfortable with us. School was out and we made our way to the locker room, while students were saying “what up”, giving us dap and showing some excitement because of our presence. In the locker room, after giving each player a pair of brand new cleats yesterday, Team Nike had another surprise lined up today. With each player's number on the sleeve, the 5D2F logo on the back, and Rockets team logo and slogan on the front, they were each given their own Nike Tight Pro compression shirt. Players were definitely hyped up over all the new gear they've received from Team Nike.
And after another great practice, the Rockets were still getting hooked up. Nike supplied the team with a catered dinner. After some players finished their second and even third plates of food, Nike gave Coach Lockette a 5 Days 2 Friday football, which he said will be given to the player of the game. The night ended with inspirational speeches from Centrals Head Principal Douglas Rodriguez, Alumni's, and Coach Telly Lockette. Going on the schools 50th year reunion and the football programs 45th year, the Rockets haven't seen one state championship title yet. After hearing these speeches tonight, the players should be more motivated than ever, not only to beat Northwestern tomorrow night but also to continue on its way to their first state title.

Today was another picture perfect day here in Miami, Florida. With both MaxPreps and Nike at school, the Miami Central community was definitely excited to have us around. During lunch Team Nike had the ID Booth set up where students got to design their own shoe. Knowing they have a chance to win these shoes for free, students were flying to the back of the cafeteria to make their own. After lunch Casey and I were able to get a glimpse of the many awards the athletic program has achieved over the years. Then before calling it a day, Team Nike surprised the whole football team with brand new Nike Cleats, getting the squad really amped up. We caught up with a few key players to get some feedback about the week and the game against Northwestern. Breaking in their cleats, the players had another great practice while looking fresh in their new Nike gear.

So Adam and I have a new home this week, a Miami football paradise. With palm trees in the backdrop, coaches barking and players sweating, we got out first taste of the Central Rockets at Monday afternoon practice. Will Smith once said they keep it hot in Miami, and he wasn‘t joking. It was a good thing for the players and ourselves that the Nike team set up a hydration station field-side.
It wasn't hard to see from the talent on the field why these guys are 5-0 heading into this Thursday's matchup with Miami Northwestern, another squad usually stocked with more than their fair share of D-1 players. I'm really excited to see Rockets' QB Jeffrey Godfrey attempt to navigate through the NW defense Thursday, he's done it with both his arm and his feet so far this season, accounting for 4 TD's in Central's last win.
Tuesday we're going to school, as Nike will be on hand to let the kids design their own pair of Nike trainer-1's, and you never know what else might happen, it is Miami after all.
Preview – Adam & Casey
It's been a big week for Florida high school football. On the heels of St. Thomas Aquinas' shootout victory over equally-touted Byrnes of South Carolina, the current #2 in the nation, the Miami Central Rockets, will tussell with perennial power and rival Miami Northwestern in another nationally-televised showcase.
It's been the Bulls from Northwestern who have had the lionshare of success in recent years, but after falling to Washington last week and out of the Xcellent 25 national rankings, it's the Rockets who have ascended expectations and find themselves playing the bully in 2009.
Rockets QB Jeffrey Godfrey and RB Brandon Gainer have been instrumental in the Rockets' renaissance, with a big helping of defense allowing less than 6 pts/gm. The game is Thurday night at Florida International University, keep posted for 5D2F daily reports.
