The Damien Spartans baseball team scored 6 runs and limited the visiting Charter Oak Chargers to 5 in the Spartans league victory on Thursday.
The Spartans (4-4) will now prepare for their match against Santiago (Corona, CA). The Sharks go into the non-league match with a 5-5 record. In their last match, Santiago tipped Centennial (Corona, CA), 7-1, in a league match.
The Chargers (5-2) will now prepare for their match against Chino Hills (Chino Hills, CA). The Huskies go into the Sierra match with a 8-2 record. In their last match, Chino Hills tipped Alta Loma (Alta Loma, CA), 6-5, in a non-league match.
The Chargers lost their first Sierra League game, 6-5, in eight innings at Damien Thursday. Trailing 5-2, C.O. scored three times in the fifth inning to tie the game at 5-5. However, the Spartans won in the bottom of the eighth on a bases-loaded single. Leading the way for the Chargers was junior center fielder Nohlan Hernandez with three hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Junior left fielder A.T. De La Garza also had two singles and scored a run. Freshman Kory Brown continued his hot hitting with two singles and a run scored. Senior catcher Tyler Bailey had two sacrafice bunts and scored a run. Sophomore pitcher Jon Reid finished up for starter Mac Lupton going four plus innings striking out 6 Damien batters.
