Spectators at Wednesday's non-league battle between the Serra Cavaliers (Gardena, CA) and the host Banning Pilots (Wilmington, CA), saw Serra's baseball squad edge Banning by a count of 4-3.
Coming up next, the Cavaliers confront the Rolling Hills Prep Huskies (San Pedro, CA) in a non-league match, on Thursday, April 12. Serra will attempt to advance on its 12-2 season record. The Huskies go into the match with a 7-4 record after their 21-0 non-league loss to Burbank (Burbank, CA).
The Pilots (5-15) will now prepare for their match against Palos Verdes (Palos Verdes Estates, CA). The Sea Kings go into the non-league match with a 11-6 record. In their last match, Palos Verdes edged Palos Verdes Peninsula (Rolling Hills Estates, CA), 8-1, in a league match.
Khalil Denson pitched 5 strong innings yielding only 2 earned runs to Banning batters. Serra erupted 4 2 runs in the 6th inning to tie the game at 3. It was
the big back to back triples by Dominic Smith and Tim Ravare that set the stage for the come back.. Domonic's prodigious shot drove in a runn and Khalil
plated Tim Ravare on a sacrafice fly after Tim had tripled. In the top of the 7th, Duncan Mckinnon laced a shot to left center field to drive in the go ahead
run and the eventual winning run. Dominic Smith, after loading the bases in the 7th settled down to strike out the side and ice the victory.
