The Columbus Explorers baseball team scored 4 runs and limited the visiting Braddock Bulldogs to 3 in the Explorers league victory on Thursday.
The Explorers (9-1) will now prepare for their match against Dwyer (Palm Beach Gardens, FL). The Panthers go into the non-league match with a 7-3 record.
The Bulldogs (3-4) will now prepare for their match against American Heritage (Plantation, FL). The Patriots go into the non-league match with a 9-2 record.
Braddock falls to Columbus 4-3 on late run
Braddock fell victim to a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning on Tuesday, handing Columbus a 4-3 win at Columbus.
With the score tied at three in the ninth inning, hit a sacrifice fly, plating Daniel Lynch.
Willie Padron had a good game at the plate for Braddock. Padron went 2-4 and drove in one. Padron singled in the fifth and ninth innings.
Laz Rivera got on base three times in the game for Columbus. He scored one run and had one RBI. Rivera homered in the ninth inning.
Luis Collazo baffled Braddock, striking out seven batters. Columbus' pitcher allowed no earned runs on four hits and one walk over 6 2/3 innings.
In the top of the first, Braddock grabbed the early lead, 2-0. David Jervis singled to ignite Braddock's offense. A groundout by Brian Hernandez then moved Gaby Mundo from second to third. Carlos Cabrera doubled, plating Jervis and Mundo.
