The Warde Mustangs baseball team lost Monday's home conference game against Danbury by a score of 14-7.
The Danbury Hatters baseball team scored 14 runs and limited the host Warde Mustangs to 7 in the Hatters league victory on Monday.
The Hatters (5-1) will now prepare for their match against Harding (Bridgeport, CT). The Presidents go into the Fairfield County match with a 0-4 record. In their last match, Harding was overwhelmed by St. Joseph (Trumbull, CT), 28-0, in a league match.
The Mustangs (4-2) will now prepare for their match against Wilton (Wilton, CT). The Warriors go into the Fairfield County match with a 2-4 record. In their last match, Wilton was overwhelmed by Greenwich (Greenwich, CT), 4-0, in a league match.
The Hatters played sloppy ball in the field but were able to overcome the lapses with a 17-hit attack in a 14-7 win on Monday at Fairfield Warde. Ash Rao gutted four innings despite being hit with a batted ball to pick up his second win against one loss. Corey Brosz pitched the last three, giving up two runs and fanning four. Jack Zanine got the Hatters on the board with a one-out homer to left in the first, and then the Hatters scored seven runs in the second on five hits, with the big blow a Chris DelDebbio grand slam to left center. Zanine finished the day 3-5 with three RBIs, while Rob Bonacci also added three hits, and Marquise Marrero had two hits and two RBIs. For the Mustangs, Dario Pugliano belted a solo homer in the fourth, while Mike Foley and Anthony Miller had two hits each.
