The Dover Tornadoes (Dover, OH) baseball trounced the host Philo Electrics (Duncan Falls, OH), 14-0 in Wednesday's non-league contest.
Coming up next, the Tornadoes encounter the Claymont Mustangs (Uhrichsville, OH) in a non-league contest, on Thursday, May 10. Dover will attempt to better on its 13-10 season record.
The Electrics now sport a 3-5 record.
ZANESVILLE - The Dover Tornadoes exploded for 8 runs in the first inning and never looked back as they defeated the Philo Electrics in the semifinals of the Division II Sectionals on Wednesday evening. The first five batters in the Tornadoes' lineup (Mason Mamarella, Taylor Koop, Logan Maholm, Wes Baker, and Josh Zucal) hit consecutive line drive singles to start the bottom of the first inning. A sacrifice fly by Derik Swinderman plated a run followed by back-to-back singles by Jordan Ravine and Jack Birtcher. Mamarella then doubled as the Tornadoes tallied their eight runs.
Koop went the distance for the shutout as he scattered three singles and struck out 10 in the five innings that he worked. Mamarella paced the Tornadoes hit attck with a double and two singles while Baker and Birtcher added two singles each. Dover improves to 13-10 and faces Claymont tonight in the sectional championship again played at Zanesville.
