In Friday's non-league game, the visiting St. Lawrence Celtics baseball team scored a tight 6-2 victory over the Fremont Christian Warriors.
The Celtics (1-0) will now prepare for their game against Harker (San Jose, CA). The Eagles go into the non-league game with a 0-1 record. In their last game, Harker was overwhelmed by Mountain View (Mountain View, CA), 13-2, in a non-league game.
The Warriors (0-2) will now prepare for their game against Bentley (Lafayette, CA). The Phoenix go into the non-league game with a 0-1 record. In their last game, Bentley was overwhelmed by Urban (San Francisco, CA), 3-2, in a non-league game.
Sahil Bhargava induced a pivotal first-inning, double play, and then the Saint Lawrence right-handed pitcher settled down and propelled the Celtics to a 6-2 season-opening game over Fremont Christian. Bhargava, a junior, pitched five and 2/3 innings to earn the win. He escaped a first-inning jam when he got an inning-ending, double play after Fremont Christian had already scored a run.
Matt Hargadon rapped out three hits, including a run-scoring triple in the fourth inning, and he scored twice and stole a base. Matt Barela's RBI single in the first inning helped lift the Celtics to a three-run inning. Lead-off hitter Vinny Camarda scored a pair of runs, and Zach Pascual and Bhargava each contributed RBIs. Barela pitched one and 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for the Celtics.
