The West Milford Highlanders (West Milford, NJ) basketball nipped the host West Orange Mountaineers (West Orange, NJ), 47-46 in Saturday's league test.
The Highlanders (4-0) will now prepare for their test against Passaic Valley (Little Falls, NJ). The Hornets go into the Northern Hills - Skyline test with a 4-0 record. In their last test, Passaic Valley got by West Side (Newark, NJ), 51-43, in a league test.
The Mountaineers now own a 3-1 record. They take the field next when they travel to Montville for a Northern Hills - Skyline test on Tuesday, January 6. West Orange will clash with a Mustangs squad coming off a 51-39 league loss to Millburn (Millburn, NJ). The Mustangs record now stands at 3-3.
West Milford mounted a 14-2 lead with roughly 3 minutes remaining.
The resilient Mountaineers climbed back into the game by closing out the half on an 18-9 run, pulling down 13 offensive rebounds in the half.
West Orange took a slight lead in the tight game, led by the torrid shooting of senior G Russ Thompson.
After both teams matched each other shot-for-shot for over 7 minutes, West Milford senior G Nick Solicito drained a clutch 3-point shot with 3.6 seconds left to win the game for the Highlanders.
