The Dougherty Trojans basketball team scored 62 points and held the host Crisp County Cougars to 50 in the Trojans league triumph on Friday.
The Trojans now sport a 10-5 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Worth County for a AAA Region 1 contest on Saturday, January 13. Dougherty will meet a Rams team coming off a 68-57 league loss to Monroe (Albany, GA). The Rams record now stands at 6-10.
The Cougars (5-12) will now prepare for their contest against Dooly County (Vienna, GA). The Bobcats enter the non-league contest with a 9-8 record. In their last contest, Dooly County ran past Taylor County (Butler, GA), 63-59, in a league contest.
Dougherty emerged victorious 62-50 against Crisp County on Friday on the strength of Will Riggins, who scored 10 points.
Dougherty Trojans Varsity put points on the board early, claiming a 31-27 lead at the half.
Riggins led Dougherty's offense with 10 points, including four during the fourth period. He also contributed 11 rebounds and two blocks.
Kahlil Day (8 points) and Rod Jones (6 points) each contributed multiple three-pointers. Two other players also added ten or more points for Dougherty. BJ Chapman added 10 points and Eric Gulley scored 10 points. Also chipping in for Dougherty were Carlos Curry (8 points, 2 rebounds, 1 block), Dralandius Davis (6 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals), and Justin Jackson (4 points, 5 rebounds).
Dougherty finished the game with 45 rebounds (19 offensive / 26 defensive), four blocks and 10 steals.
