The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers basketball team scored 64 points and restricted the visiting Montevideo Thunderhawks to 34 in the Tigers league victory on Friday.
The Tigers now sport a 8-7 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City for a West Central contest on Tuesday, January 23.
The Thunderhawks (1-14) will now prepare for their contest against Minnewaska Area (Glenwood, MN). The Lakers come into the West Central contest with a 10-8 record.
The Morris Area Chokio/Alberta Tigers got over the .500 mark with a convincing 64-34 win over the Montevideo Thunderhawks this past Friday night at the Tigers Den. The win was the 6th straight for the Tigers as they upped their record to 8-7 on the year. The Tigers had balanced scoring and got a big spark from a pair of senior guards off the bench to lead them to victory. With Kyle Staebler out with an illness and Camden Arndt nursing a sore leg the Tiger boys got 12 points from Chandler Vogel and 9 points from Tyler Reimers to aid them in the win. Vogel scored 9 of his 12 points in the second half and Reimers was a perfect 3 for 3 from the field including a pair of 3 point baskets to help the Tigers up their conference record to 4 - 3 on the year. Tate Nelson had a game high 14 points for the Orange and Black while Jaret Johnson chipped in 12 points, as well.
Montevideo played the Tigers tough through the first 8 minutes, leading 9 - 8 before the Tigers started heating up on offense. Four 3 point baskets by 4 different Tigers helped the Tigers break away from the Hawks as Reimers, Nelson, Koebernick and Vogel each connected. With Jackson Loge and Jaret Johnson's inside work the Tigers built up a 38 - 21 halftime lead.
The Tigers stayed consistent in the second half, but it was their defense that stood out, allowing only 13 second half points on their way to the win. Monte made only 3 field goals the entire half and the Tigers won big in front of the home crowd. Tate Nelson led the Tigers in scoring for the night with 14 points followed by Jaret Johnson with 12. ackson Loge scored 5 points in this contest, but he patrolled the boards with 11 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Tyler Reimers and Jaret Johnson each had 5 rebounds while Connor Koebernick had a team high 5 assists. The Tigers go on the road to face the Falcons of ACGC next Tuesday.
