TMSA came out like wildfire in this rematch between two area rivals, blitzing Southern Wake for 20 first-quarter points and holding their opponents to only nine. Ironically, this was the exact same way the first game between these two teams started, setting the table for one of the best games of the Bull City Classic Holiday Invitational.
Just as in their first matchup, Southern Wake came out in the second quarter and flipped the script on TMSA, cutting the halftime deficit down to five and putting the Tigers on their hind legs & paws a little bit with a 19-13 scoring edge in the frame.
The third quarter proved to be the closest of the game, with TMSA only edging SWA by three points in the period and carrying an eight-point lead into the final eight minutes .
If you hung around Mt. Zion for this final quarter, you got a competitive treat, as the two teams traded big shots, defensive plays, and maximum effort for the whole eight-minute period. Despite SWA posting the highest-scoring quarter of the contest with 21 points in the period, TMSA's tenacious defense forced turnover-after-turnover-after-empty possession to pull the game not only back even, but to put the game in their offense's hands for the final possession of the game & a chance to win in regulation. A desperation heave from deep off the inbounds turned into a fortunate carom to the left side where it was picked up & put back in for the buzzer-beating win via a floater by c/o 2020 CG Musa Kamal, sending the crowd into a frenzy the likes of which that side of Durham may not have seen in a while!
