New York High School Football - Canisius gets by St. Joseph's Collegiate InstituteOctober 27, 2012: Buffalo, NY 14223
The Canisius Crusaders football squad scored 28 points and restricted the host St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute Marauders to 21 in the Crusaders league victory on Saturday.
The Crusaders now possess a 9-0 record.
CHS - 2:20 - "0 - 7" - Quadree Ollison 7 yd run - Christian Alaimo PAT - 13 plays, 71 yds in 5:45
St Joe's first drive went for 7 plays, and turned the ball over on downs at CHS29 yd line. Followed by CHS long drive for the first score of the game.
Not a lot of scoring but plenty of hitting in the first qtr. in front of an estimated 6K rain soaked fans at the Robert T. Scott, AFCA Athletic complex.
SJCI - 9:30 - "7 - 7" - Ilo Noble 71 yd run - after Big Stop on D forcing CHS to turn over on downs at Joe's 14 - Brandon Belles PAT - 4 plays, 86 yds in 1:30
SJCI - 4:20 - "14 - 7" - Dennis Gilbert Jr. 1 yd run - after Canisius fumble at CHS 49 - 6 plays, 49 yds in 3:15 - Belles PAT
Momentum starts to swing the St. Joe's way and they take advantage of it. After a big defensive stop at our own 14, forcing CHS to turn the ball over on downs, our full arsenal of weapons get ignited as Sr. Ilo Noble takes a pitch to the outside and uses his speed to go 71 yds to tie the score.
St Joe's then forces a fumble on the CHS next drive, recovered by Sr. Dylan Hall, and Joe's takes the lead with a QB keeper by Jr. Dennis Gilbert Jr.
With CHS on the ropes, Jr. Nigel Davis intercepts a CHS pass late in half, but Joe's could not take advantage of this CHS miscue, as they throw an interception deep in CHS territory in the last minute of the first half.
CHS - 10:29 - "14 - 14" - Q Ollison 55 yd run - Alaimo PAT - 3 plays, 59 yds in 1:30
SJCI - 6:49 - "21 - 14" - Nigel Davis 39 yd pass from Gilbert - Belles PAT - 6 plays, 65 yds in 3:30
CHS - 6:30 - "21 - 20 " - Q Ollison 73 yd run - KICK MISSED - 1 play, 73 yds in an "unofficial" 08 seconds
Both teams offenses come out of the dressing rooms after half-time and warm up the approx. 6K in the crowd with some, " if you can do that, I can do this " type of plays.
First, CHS Jr. running back Quadree Ollison goes 55 yds for CHS to tie the game at 14. Joe's then does not flinch as they drive methodically down field and retake the lead on the DG2 pass to Davis. Ollison then takes CHS next offensive play for 71 yds to apparently tie the score back up, but CHS misses the PAT.
With Joe's still leading, they stop CHS, before fumbling another chance to take a one score lead back over their rivals.
CHS - 8:42 - "21 - 28 " - Q Ollison 41 yd run - Tyler Mascio 2 pt run - ? plays, 69 yds in 3;15
A great ending to the game as both teams D answers the "intensity" of the rivlary with key stops to start the qtr. CHS takes the lead back for good as Ollison goes 41 yds for the deciding points, and Jr. QB Tyler Mascio converts on the 2 pt play.
Joes would get the ball twice more but cannot get past midfield. One drive ends with another fumble. Their final drive began due to the defense forcing a CHS fumble on 4th and 4 at their own 18 yd line. Great job D. But, ST. Joe's does not take advnatge of the opurtunity for the knock out punch as they turn the ball over on downs with less then 1 minute left on the clock.
Game NOTES: CHS gets 251 yds in total offense in the second half, while SJCI can only muster 98 yds and only 3 first downs. The CHS numbers in the second hald was led by Ollison's 246 rushing yds. He would finish the day with 344 yds on 39 att.
