In Friday's league outing, the Avon Braves (Avon, NY) basketball squad overwhelmed the visiting Caledonia-Mumford Raiders (Caledonia, NY), by a margin of 58-31.
The Braves (10-8) will now prepare for their outing against Le Roy (Le Roy, NY). The Knights go into the Section 5 Livingston County II outing with a 6-10 record.
The Raiders now own a 6-9 record. They play next when they host Wheatland-Chili for a non-league outing on Tuesday, February 12. Caledonia-Mumford will clash with a Wildcats squad coming off a 48-43 league loss to Elba (Elba, NY). The Wildcats record now stands at 11-6.
Cal-Mum jumped out to an early 6-2 lead as Elyse Van Auken scored all six points for the Lady Raiders. A three pointer by Keni Read brought Avon to within one at 6-5 and a jump shot from Ellie Cochrane gave the Braves a lead that they would not give up. Grace Walker hit a three pointer late in the first that ended the first quarter scoring at 14-11 Avon.
Five straight points from Van Auken tied the game for Cal-Mum at 16, but the Braves would close out the half with an 11-5 run as six different players scored. Van Auken scored nine of her game high twenty-one points in the second to help the Lady Raiders stay within six at 27-21.
Avon broke open the game as Sarina McDowell and Abby Decillis each scored four points and Read hit another three pointer to key a 13-2 Braves quarter. Avon's defense held Cal-Mum without a field goal in the quarter.
The Braves closed out the game with an eighteen point fourth quarter as McDowell scored six points and Read hit two more three's.
