California High School Soccer - Kern Valley held off by Bishop
(January 17, 2012: Lake Isabella, CA 93240) The Bishop Broncos held off the host Kern Valley Broncs soccer squad by a margin of 2-1 in Tuesday's league match.
The Broncos now sport a 4-5 record. They play next when they host Rosamond for a High Desert match on Thursday, January 19. Bishop will encounter a Roadrunners squad coming off a 2-0 league loss to Frazier Mountain (Lebec, CA). The Roadrunners record now stands at 3-10.
With the loss, Kern Valley drops to 6-8 on the season. The Broncs travel to Desert (Edwards AFB, CA) to confront the Scorpions in a High Desert challenge on Thursday, January 19. The Scorpions enter the challenge with a record of 4-4. Desert won 1-0 in their recent non-league challenge against California City (California City, CA)
Kern Valley controlled passing in the midfield for the first 20 minutes. Bishop took over the game after superb passing KV's defensive 3rd disorganized the Bronc defense and allowed the Broncos to score a fine goal which set the Lady Broncs back on their heels and allowed Bishop to take over control of the game. Bishop earned 4 more Keeper touches than KV in the first half and ende it with a 1-0 lead. Early in the second half Bishop scored again as a result of good passing in their attack. But, KV came to life again in the last 20 minutes as Toni Hogue scored for KV and the Lady Broncs pressed hard to the end. Final score 1-2 in favor of Bishop Lady Broncos. But, KV managed to earn 4 more Keeper touches than Bishop in the second half.
